TYNER TRUST FUND:

The Cherokee Baptist Association is a recipient of Susan B. Tyner’s Last Will & Testament in that the will states that the money is to be used “for the benefit of needy Cherokee Children”. To apply for assistance from the Tyner Trust Fund, you must complete an application and return it to the Tyner Trust Fund Committee. Applications can be returned to the below address or emailed to cbatynertrustfund@gmail.com.  The committee will review your application and determine if your family qualifies for assistance based on the eligibility criteria. The committee will meet the 2nd & 4th Thursday of each month (as needed). The application must be complete, signed, and mailed/delivered by a Parent/Guardian that the child(ren) lives with.

  • Applying children must be between the ages of:   Birth – 17 years old (18 if still in school – provide documentation).
  • Applicants do not need to be a member of a church, but applications must be signed by a Pastor or authorized representative (deacon or secretary if pastor is not available) from a Cherokee Baptist Association Church.
  • All applicants must be a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, United Keetoowah Band, or Eastern Band of Cherokees. (Provide copy of Tribal Membership Card).
  • Funds can be utilized once per CBA Fiscal year – October 1 – September 30. (Emergency cases will be considered.)
  • Applicants must return original receipts by mail. Failure to mail receipts will jeopardize future requests. Please write the name of the child on the back of the receipt(s).
  • Cards will be distributed at the CBA Office to qualifying families on the Saturday following the committee meeting (from 10am-11am only). Cards not picked up at this time, will be returned to the church submitting the application for distribution to qualifying families.
  • Funds will be dispersed via Walmart Gift Card (amount determined by funds available) for qualifying families or direct payment to the utility company, etc. for emergency cases. Funds must be used for clothing, shoes or other emergency family need as determined by the Tyner Trust Committee.

SONYA COCHRAN SCHOLARSHIP:.

 

This scholarship is in memory of Sonya Cochran who faithfully served the Cherokee Baptist Association and the Native American community in several youth related capacities during the time that God allowed us to know her. Sonya served as Tyner Trust Fund Chairman for several years and was involved in our annual Family Camp each summer in addition to her involvement in work with the youth of Cherry Tree Baptist Church. Education and a positive youth influence were a large part of Sonya’s testimony. Applications are due by May 1st. Funds will be sent directly to the college/university/Tech School that the applicant is attending. Scholarship award is pending available funds and the committee reserves the right to award or not award based on funding availability. A new application will be required for each award cycle

To qualify, the application must meet/include the following:

  • Application must be complete with all accompanying documents. Missing documents will disqualify the application.
  • Applicant must be attending a college, university, or Technical/Trade School for their Freshman year up until age 21.
  • Applicants must be a faithful member of a church that is a part of the Cherokee Baptist Association.
  • A letter from the applicant stating their personal testimony, church membership & involvement, and how the funds will benefit their education.
  • All applicants must be a citizen of the Cherokee Nation, United Keetoowah Band, or Eastern Band of Cherokees. A copy of the applicants CDIB card must be attached.
  • Current Photo must be included – Digital file or print.
  • Applicant must meet current income guidelines for the Tyner Trust Fund.
  • A letter of recommendation from their pastor or Youth Director stating the applicant’s faithfulness and activities in the church.
  • A letter of enrollment or current class schedule (preferred).
